Franklin is also a longtime leader in historic preservation, setting a model and benchmark for cities and towns across the country.

As Franklin continues to evolve and change, the Franklin Preservation Plan will help chart a course for balancing new growth and investment with maintaining the community’s essential character. The goal of the plan is to create a community-led vision to guide preservation programs and policies, identify additional sites, places, and stories of importance to Franklin, support residents and business owners in preserving and investing in their historic properties, and promote thoughtful development. Franklin Preservation Plan Explained.

Historic preservation is really about the future. It challenges us to ask: What makes our city unique? What are the buildings, sites, places, and traditions that shaped who and where we are today? How can we honor the full and complete story of our past while embracing the need for new development and investment? The Franklin Preservation Plan will help set a collective vision for how Franklin can continue to leverage its rich cultural and built heritage to promote sustainable community and economic development. The Plan will serve as key reference point for City leadership and guide the creation of new preservation tools, policies, and resources. Hanbury Preservation Consulting’s expertise is in historic preservation planning and heritage tourism planning, Hanbury will assist in Civil War battlefield sites and the potential impact future development will have on historic resources.

Cultural Heritage Works brings expertise in heritage tourism, African American and Civil Rights Movement history, historic context studies, and strategic planning.
